What’s In a Name.

Posted On Monday, January 30th, 2012 By Gideon

There’s this thing in the back of my head that i can’t get out. I like porn, a lot, and talk about it. A lot. When ever I talk to friends and name some performers I get the same exact response, “I don’t know any of their names.” As if it doesn’t matter. For the longest time this bothered me, then I thought maybe there was something wrong with me, that this wasn’t really an issue. Then it hit me, once you name something you humanize it. When scientists conduct experiments on animals, you’re not supposed to name the animal so you don’t get attached. Not knowing a name creates a detachment. In the context of porn though, it just adds to the already existing objectification of the performers. It’s like saying that they only exist for your pleasure and that’s it. That once the video is done playing they don’t matter, they don’t have lives out of what they do, that they’re not people. This isn’t right. But I can’t say that I’m surprised. A lot of the same people that don’t know names of performers look down on porn and others that watch it. I once told a Continue Reading

Assassin’s Creed 2: What the Hell Just Happened?!?!

Posted On Monday, January 2nd, 2012 By Gideon

So I just finished playing the second installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed 2, a few hours ago. It took every game play issue from the first one, and fixed it. It also improves on how the present their story. In the first one, to get the present/future story line, you had to read through emails which was interesting but not very fun. In the second one, it blends the two story lines together. From here on in, there will be spoilers for the series so you’ve been warned. The end of the first one, you see  writing on the wall, through your eagle vision. However, since this happens as Desmond, it’s a bit of a shock. As soon as you see the writing on the wall, a quick cinematic starts of Desmond saying “what the hell is that.” Then it cuts to credits really quickly. This felt like a huge cliffhanger and made me immediately install Assassin’s Creed 2 on my computer and play through it. This time however, the ending was not as quickly dispatched but still strange as hell. As you play as Ezio, a character, named Minerva, who reveals more information about the backstory Continue Reading

Assassin’s Creed series, My First Thoughts and Experiences.

Posted On Friday, December 30th, 2011 By Gideon

So, in November Batman: Arkham City came out, and I figured that it would take over my life. Except, for some reason, it didn’t. Instead, Assassin’s Creed took away all my free time. It’s a game I’ve had for years but never got past the second assassination. I’ve tried twice before to play and beat this game, but it just didn’t happen. Anyway, jump to a few weeks ago, some people around were talking about Assassin’s Creed and I thought, “Hey, I should pick from where I left off and just beat the damn thing.” I picked it up from where ever I left off simply because I didn’t feel like going through the beginning again. Luckily, I didn’t forget the story up to that point and the controls were a lot easier this time since I started using a USB controller. 50 hours later, and I’m almost done with the second one. This wasn’t planned, but damn, was it fun. The first game in the series, isn’t the best game ever. The combat system wasn’t as responsive as other games I’ve played. I would hit the counter button at what I thought was the right time only to have Continue Reading

Random Musings… If Life Were a Video Game.

Posted On Sunday, June 6th, 2010 By Gideon

Okay, so right now I’m in a constant state of pain due to the spider poison coursing through my veins. I can take the pain, but damn, it’s wearing my patience thin. I’m only a few steps away from declaring war on the Spider species and attempting a mass genocide. But that’s besides the point. I was thinking today, if Life were a Video Game, there would be no sickness. Not really. If you do get hurt or poisoned somehow, you just go to the store and pick up a medkit, or find one randomly while you work. Now, if you take this further then that means there would no HIV/AIDS, no STD’s, no Flu, no Cancer. and the thing is, these medkits would be available to pretty much everyone, rich and poor. In games medkits aren’t cheap, but they’re also not expensive and usually can be found randomly on the ground. so the cure for everything would exist so cheaply and abundantly that no one could really get sick. But it’s not limited to viral/bacterial sickness, medkits can also cure Broken limbs. Break an arm? No problem, just walk around outside for a little while and you’ll find a Continue Reading

Return of Bruce Wayne, issues 1 and 2. recap and reactions.

Posted On Thursday, May 27th, 2010 By Gideon

I was reading the most recent issue of Return of Bruce Wayne (isse 2), and was simply happy with it. Spoilers follow. It seems to be a time travel story with two separate story lines emerging in this issue: the Future Story and the Past Story. in the Past story, Bruce Wayne is struggling to remember who he is and trying to make sense about everything around him. In the last issue we saw him in Cave man times, and we also saw a rocket (more on that laster). Wayne still had his athletic abilities. And used it to help his tribe fend off an attack from Vandal Savage’s tribe. and at the end of that issue he fought a monster that reminded me of Cthulhu because of all the tentacles. And that some how transported him into the time of puritans. Issue 2 continues the story of Wayne in puritan times. He becomes a “witch” hunter, however, because he’s Bruce Wayne, he doesn’t believe in witches. He’s still logical and very much a detective. and doesn’t believe a devil killed one of the citizens of Gotham, his detective mind knows that it was the wife who did in her Continue Reading

Blackest Night. and the Problem with DC.

Posted On Friday, April 9th, 2010 By Gideon

so, anyway. i haven’t written about Blackest Night since it started because i can’t see past the surface story. i don’t know why. i just don’t see what it’s trying to say. though, i do enjoy the surface story. i have read elsewhere that it’s about life and living, others have said it explains how all the religions co-exist in the DC universe, or something along those lines. i don’t really agree with the latter. but either way, i didn’t like how it ended. Spoilers follow. so my main issue with Blackest Night is Hal Jordan merging with the entity and then turning some of the black lantern heroes into white lanterns. now, everyone saw this coming the moment you saw the Black Lantern Power Battery. everyone knew Hal Jordan was going to be a White Lantern. so that’s not surpising, though annoying that the plot point was so obvious. but i digress, what doesn’t make sense is how Hal turns the black lanterns into white lanterns. all he does is merge with the entity. and then through some unknown method, he turns some of the heroes into white lanterns. why wasn’t Sinestro able to do this? how did jordan Continue Reading

Separate But Equal Comics.

Posted On Monday, March 15th, 2010 By Gideon

this came up in a discussion with a friend when i was trying to make a point about something else. she brought up the idea, i thought about it, and she’s right. and from what i can gather, Marvel is pushing women heroes and creators into their own separate titles.  Marvel’s current marketing scheme for this year is to showcase women of the marvel universe. Marvel Divas is one of the titles that comes to mind. and recently they released the first issue of a planned three issue series called Girl Comics. the former is supposed to show the strong, women characters of the Marvel Universe being, well, strong. and the latter is to showcase the talented women creators of comics. however, it’s not very integrated.  Marvel wants to show strong women, but in their own separate comics. that would be fine if they gave more on-going solo titles to the women characters. however, all these comics that are supposed to have strong women leads, are only slated to last for a handful of issues, and that’s it. Marvel Divas lasted only 4 or 5 issues, Girl Comics only three. if marvel was truly behind this idea of gender equality, Continue Reading

Sherlock Holmes An Early Prototype for Batman?

Posted On Monday, January 18th, 2010 By Gideon

that’s the hypothesis. my month’s end i’ll have my answer. so i recently saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie by Guy Ritchie starring Robert Downey Jr. whose rising in the ranks of awesome along with Matt Fraction. in other words, i like Downey playing super hero(-ish) characters. i believe he made a good Holmes and does a fantastic Tony Stark. anyway, over all, the movie felt like a comic book. from mysterious, faceless villains, to an on-going plot which the viewers won’t see to en end at least until film 3. the fight scenes were enjoyable and at times humorous. and the use of sound was amazing. first time in a long time that sound actually effects my opinion of a film, in this case in a good way. it’s an interesting use of sound, in certain scenes there is almost no sound except for a white noise and barely audible dialouge. now, the reason why i don’t hate the film’s version of Holmes is because 1) i haven’t read the books, and 2) i’ve read people’s reviews who have read the book, and they say the film is pretty accurate. however, while watching the movie, there were certain annoyances. Scott Pilgrim Vs. Me?

Posted On Friday, January 15th, 2010 By Gideon

couldn’t think of a catchy Title or a long one. sidenote, happy new years i guess. though it’s been a new year for a while. whatever.  anyway.  the Comic reading that i did do after ingesting 5 seasons of Lost was the Scott Pilgrim Series. and holy shit, is it good. it’s a story about a guy who isn’t totally masculine at all who meets a girl and has to fight her seven evil Ex-es.  the fight scenes are bizzare and random. but, they’re not the main point of the comic. as the story progresses so does their relationship, and you end up feeling the ups and downs of it all. which is why i like this comic so much. in the first few volumes i was so happy for them, but as things progress things get sadder and sadder. and you begin to feel sadder with the characters. which to me, is a rare accomplishment. since this comic emotionally draws you in, i say everyone should read it. but specifically, video game geeks. seeing as how a lot of the humor is derived from game geekdom, not being a geek, the humor may pass you. or it may not. Lost.My Half Assed Review. and Rant.

Posted On Friday, January 15th, 2010 By Gideon

so one of the reasons i haven’t been updating, is that i’ve fallen behind on my comic reading (today i might do a double or triple post if i’m not lazy, which is a pretty big if), reason i’ve fallen behind on comics is that my and a friend decided to watch Lost, more or less, at the same time.  what i don’t get is, why do people love the show so much. so i watched all five seasons that have been released. i hate the first few seasons. season 1 is the worst. it’s mostly made up of character pieces, problem is, i don’t care for most the cast. i hate jack. and i love sawyer. everyone else is just kinda there. season two had the same problem, but the plot was slowly improving. season three is when things start getting good, plot-wise, but still not great. Season 4 is where they abandon the notion of character pieces, and focus on plot. so now, when there’s a flashback, it’s not to show what the character was like pre-Island, it’s there to move the story along. as a result the pace of the show starts picking up for the seasons Continue Reading
